Trust AGM a “Big Success”

May 3, 2014

Board memberSONSTRUST chair Brian Payne has expressed gratitude to all those who turned out and participated in a lively Annual General Meeting at the Bet Butler Stadium last Saturday (26th April 2014).

With nearly 100 trust members present, it was one of the largest AGMs in our history — coming at a time of huge success for Dumbarton FC on the pitch, potentially big decisions about how to move forward for the Club as a whole, and a Sonstrust membership level which looks set to break yet more records.

We are now over 350, and have one of the largest proportions of over-16 season ticket holders as Trust members in Scottish football.

The Sonstrust is actively engaged with the Club over future development. We are also strongly involved with the renewed Supporters Direct Scotland, which is helping more and more fans’ groups to move towards greater community shareholding or full community ownership for their clubs.

The AGM heard directly about this from SDS chief executive Paul Goodwin and project manager Andrew Jenkin. The membership of the Trust Board was affirmed until the next AGM. A decision was also taken about a more economical and appropriate accounting practice. The launch of a trust Community Purpose Fund and allied community consortium was announced, and there was input and a Q&A on issues related to a possible stadium move arising from local development plans covered in local press reports.

More information about all of this, and full minutes of the AGM, will be issued in due course.

“The Sonstrust, like the Club, is looking to the future and strengthening its profile, role and capacity,” said Brian Payne.

“We are really grateful for Sons fans’ support and urge everyone to be ready to get involved and give their trust active backing in the coming year and beyond. We will also actively be seeking supporters’ views on all the issues we face moving forward. Our job is to make Sons’ supporters voices count.”
