Sonstrust Community Purpose Fund

May 3, 2014

communityTHE Sonstrust wants to be a key part of the future of Dumbarton FC and to raise funds to help the Club become sustainable on a community basis at the highest possible level in Scottish football.

That was the message coming from the Trust’s AGM as two new ventures were launched. The first is a Community Purpose Fund — which will enable us to build resources for projects the fans want to see, and also to move towards the issuing of Community Shares at an appropriate point in the future. We are bald to report that we already have some significant initial donations to the Fund.

Allied to this, a network founded and coordinated by the Sonstrust, the Dumbarton Community Football Consortium, has been set up, with over a dozen initial supporters. The aim of this group is to seek support and resources for the future (including money for our new Fund) from the widest possible range of people in the local area and beyond — people who specifically want to see DFC develop as a fan- and community-based Club, and to ensure its benefit and security well into the future.

The Consortium has met twice. Its coordination group, which is a sub-group of the Trust Board, has asked me to be the initial chair. More will be said about the Community Purpose Fund, community investment, and how YOU can get involved shortly.
