Trust Thanks Club and Pledges Support

March 13, 2014

SonsFansTHE Sonstrust has congratulated everyone involved at Dumbarton FC for all the work that has gone into securing the team’s extraordinary successes in recent seasons, and has committed itself to collaborating fully in taking the club forward in the future.

A press release has been issued on behalf of the trust this week. It reads as follows:

The Dumbarton FC Supporters’ Trust – the registered co-op that represents the fans’ stake in the Scottish Championship club – says that significant on-field progress over the past few seasons creates a “great opportunity” to build for the future.

“Our league position and the Sons’ amazing performance against top-flight Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup shows just how far we have come,” said Sonstrust chairman Brian Payne.

“We heartily congratulate the manager and staff, the squad, the chairman, board and owners for all they have done to make that possible. The challenge now is to see if we can maintain ourselves at this level. That requires everyone to work together even more strongly, off as well as on the field. We pledge ourselves to that task.”

The Sonstrust, which runs the Dumbarton FC website and programme, organises events and provides a voice for fans, is one of the oldest supporters’ trusts in Scotland. It is part of a movement towards increasing supporters stake-holding and ownership in the game.

“Collaboration is undoubtedly the future of football in this country,” added Sonstrust communications and projects officer Simon Barrow.

“This season the trust will break its membership record yet again and we want to work ever more closely with the club and its board, on which we are represented, to encourage more people from the local community and beyond to take active pride in our team and to help strengthen it for the future.”
