Quiz Night Success

October 27, 2013

LAST Saturday evening (26th October) members of the trust were joined by family and friends and got serious about trivia.

Over 200 people filled the Community Suite at the Bet Butler Stadium for a night of fierce competition, intense concentration and a shipload of fun – all for a good cause.

“We’re on a mission,” Trust chairman Brian Payne said. “After a couple of seasons with no real fundraising activities, we needed to get things back on track and the quiz night was one of our most popular events.
“Sadly we had to cancel last year’s quiz due to lack of teams, but this season we’ve had a tremendous response. Over £1000 was raised and the money will be held for investment when the time is right.”Brian continued : “The night wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of everyone involved especially local businesses who donated prizes for the raffle we held and of course the hard work of the trust board.”

34 teams took part, including squads from DFC’s first team pool led by captain Andy Graham.

The Sons skipper commented : “We had a great time and all the lads who came along thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it was great to be involved with the supporters.

“We finished 10th which in our view was a great achievement, especially as we had Garry Fleming in our team!”

The event was won by Alan McDonald’s team, retaining their crown from the last quiz night with Kirsty Mackie’s outfit collecting the booby prize for coming last in great spirit.

Trust secretary Alan Findlay, who acted as quizmaster in place of Andy Galloway who is holidaying in Australia thanked everyone who made the night possible.

He said: “This was a real team effort and took us back to the days when the trust was originally formed.

“David Carson, past chairman alongside Robbi Docherty worked their socks off to make sure the night was well attended.

“We had excellent contributions from Tommy Hughes, Denise Currie, Ian McEwan, David Winton and Ross Black who helped make the night go smoothly with efficient scoring. Thanks too to Mrs Rowan who marshalled the scoreboard brilliantly.

“We’d also like to thank everyone at DFC and Robert Sloan and his bar staff who all took part in great spirit and a mention to Laura and the stewards from AKC whose friendly approach to everyone was well received.

“A special mention and huge appreciation to Andy Galloway who compiled the questions – a supreme effort.”

Here’s to next year’s event!
