New Date for Albion Fixture

October 1, 2011

FRUSTRATION for Sons fans today, as the torrential rain and a waterlogged pitch meant that Dumbarton’s much-anticipated game against Albion Rovers was called off around midday.

A provisional new date for the fixture has been arranged, subject to SFL approval – details on the DFC website.

Probably the longest-travelled attenders were match ball sponsors Willard and Alice Roth (on the left in the picture), who had come first 4,000 miles from Northern Indiana, USA, before enjoying a damp four-hour round trip from Leith, Edinburgh. It would have been their first-ever professional football match, too. Ah, well…

Thanks are due to DFC chief executive Gilbert Lawrie, who kindly got even more wet in order to take a couple of photos. Also featured in this one is their daughter (my wife), Sonstrust member Carla Roth.

Next Saturday is the international break – more frayed nerves for Scotland in Liechtenstein – and then Sons are back in action away at Stenhousemuirso book your Trust travel now!
