Do You Want Friday Night Football?

September 12, 2011

OUR neighbours Morton are among those who are now piloting Friday night football, a possible reform mooted by the Scottish Premier League (SPL) and Scottish Football League (SFL).

The full press release about this can be viewed on the Dumbarton FC website. It declares: “This is a pilot project to enable all involved to understand the advantages and disadvantages of such scheduling. None of the matches will be broadcast live.”

This is a topic which is likely to excite strong feelings among fans. Saturday football is a long tradition, and one already compromised by TV deals for big games – something that has produced opposition from many supporters.

The Sonstrust Board is currently discussing the issue. But most importantly, we want to hear from Sons fans and Trust members generally. You can air your views by clicking on the poll below, which runs for a month. And you can also leave comments on the poll and here on the Trust website.

POLL:

Do you want to see the introduction of Friday-night football on a regular basis?

On a regular basis: no, not a chance. OK, once or mibbi twice a season, as it’s just another midweek date.

can only see it happen in the lower leagues as policing and hospital a+e must be a major issue, our towns and cities are bad enough on friday nights without having to deal with football fans too
