Walking on Sonshine

August 31, 2011

IS there something in the air?  Dumbarton have scored an amazing six goals in two consecutive games, making 15 in the last three. And now comes news that Scotland are world champions… at football.

Yes, you read that right! Two days ago Scotland‘s finest beat Mexico 4-3 to claim the Homeless World Cup in Paris, emerging the top side from 64 national teams composed of homeless and socially marginalised people from across the world. There’s a match report and other information here.

The competition is now in its tenth year.  It is a unique, pioneering social enterprise which exists to end homelessness and to use football to energize people to change their own lives. It has already had a major social impact.

Incidentally, there’s more on Sons scoring six apiece in consecutive matches on the DFC website. It last happened when I was ten months old, it seems. Unless YOU know differently… in which case leave a comment here.

There will be more historical info on this in the next Sons View too, editor Graeme Roberston tells us.
