Trust Travel goes green!

April 1, 2011

THE Sons Supporters Trust can today announce that next season’s trust travel scheme will run by bicycle!

The fans’ group is looking to be kinder to the environment and will look for fans to pedal their way to Dumbarton’s away fixtures next season.

Supporters looking to travel on the road during the 2011/12 campaign are being encouraged to start their fitness regime now in order to pedal to places like Forfar, Arbroath and potentially Dingwall next season.

Trust travel convenor Tommy Hughes said: “The trust has been looking at ways of being kinder to the environment – and what better way than getting our fans fitter at the same time?

“We’ve secured a deal with Halfords in Dumbarton that will give us enough bicycles, including a few tandems, that will enable us to cycle to away games next season.

“The longer away trips might require us to leave on the Friday before the game, so supporters wanting to travel might want to get the time off work once the fixtures are announced.

“We’ll still be able to run the fundraising sweep and football card as there will be stop-off points on each journey.

“The fans might want to get in shape for next season now, in preparation for cycling to places like Dingwall. Several of the trust board have been going to the gym numerous times per week already.

“You’ll thank us for it!”

The idea came from Norwegian non-league club Olaf Lipor, who already use such a scheme.

Nice try 🙂 And, ironically, a rather good idea…
