New Sons Strip 2008/2009

THE Sons Supporters Trust can today exclusively reveal the club’s plans regarding the new playing kit for next season. After some recent below-par performances, particularly at far away places like Elgin, the club have reportedly decided that next season’s kit should be sleeveless in order to ‘toughen up’ the attitude of some of our players.

A ban on players wearing gloves during the winter months is also thought to be part of the new regime.

The new kit, which is due to go on sale in late August, has already caused some controversy in the eyes of some fans. This is due to the top being predominantly red (see the picture above) which has upset fans believing that Dumbarton should not wear the same colours as arch rivals, Clydebank.

The concept is still to be cleared with the SFL who aren’t happy with the design as there is no place for the Irn-Bru logo on the shirt itself. Dumbarton and the new strip supplier plan to overcome this hurdle by producing a special ‘Challenge Cup’ matchday kit with only one sleeve, to which the badge can be attached.

A design with ‘detachable’ sleeves is also said to be under consideration.

As far as we can tell, this is a first for Scottish football with the closest unconventional kit being Cameroon’s ‘all-in-one’ and their own sleeveless kit in 2002.
