SOCIAL CALENDAR 2008/2009

THE TRUST Board are looking for ideas from our members for social events for the new season starting in August 2008. We have, of course, our annual quiz night, sportsman’s dinner (which for the new season will be a celebration of the Club’s promotion to the Premier League in 1983/1984 season – 25 years ago, phew!) and the end of season awards dance.

We would like to add more events to the calendar and increase the usage of the fine facilities we have at Dumbarton FC.

Please use the comment facility on this post to leave your ideas and we’ll discuss at our up and coming Board Meeting.

  1. I know I’m getting on a bit and the memory isn’t so good but wasn’t it 1984 that we won promotion to the Premier League.

    Great idea for an event!!

  2. Yes, season 1983/84 was the ‘glorious’ season where Premier League status was achieved.

Season 2008/2009 will mean 25 years have passed since the start of that promotion winning campaign.

Carson : Montgomerie, McGowan, McNeil, Clougherty, Tam Coyle, Ashwood, Bourke, Roberston, Craig and Joe Coyle and add in Pat McGowan, Gerry Crawley, David McCaig (what a hairstyle) and an equally bizarre barnet in Albert Burnett.

Hazy days. Just like the season about to unfold!

  3. What about a casino night? Or how about an event that showcases local talent in the shape of bands? Actually strike that last suggestion. Its been tried before but turned down on the grounds that the decision makers are old farts. Perhaps that will change now though. Hope so. I want to be able to use my club on a regular basis for nights out. Dumbarton really has nowhere to go so well done the trust (again) in kick starting the process. Looking forward to the first night out.

  4. I like the idea of a tribute act. I went to a neil diamond night at the celtic supporters club and it was fantastic.

  5. how about a new year ceilidh or cabaret party. byob nights too are popular.

  6. Jack – not entirely sure if a b y o b night would be suitable for SHS. Thanks for the ideas though, especially the ceilidh one.

There’s been a groundswell of opinion for a number of years now that a Hogmanay bash at the Club would be a popular event to have.

It’s certainly something we’d like to consider seriously, but that would be a decision based on the current DFC caterer’s own arrangements.

  7. How about a hall of fame dinner recognising past / current players who have reached various milestones such as +100 appearances etc. I’m such this would be a popular event.
